The EA Hack: FIFA 2021 and other 780gb approx files stolen

The Major gaming tech giant company Electronic Arts were attacked by hackers. Confirming from a number of sources, hackers have stolen the source code their games and internal tools. Around 780gb of data was being sold online.

What is EA?

Electronic Arts Inc. is an American game developer company that has produced many famous titles such as “The Sims”, “FIFA”,” Need For Speed”, “BattleField”, “TitanFall”, “Apex Legends”, etc. It is the 2nd largest game developing company in the US and Europe in terms of revenue and market capitalisation.

What did hackers say?

“You have full capability of exploiting on all EA services,” were the words said by hackers in various posts on underground hacking forums. Some of the sources who had access to those forums informed the motherboard about the hack with proper screenshots and proof.

Hackers said that they had stolen the source code of FIFA 2021 and also its matchmaking server. They also said that they were having the source codes of the Frostbite engine, which operates many games including battlefield. The hacked data also includes Software Development Kits (SDKs) , Frameworks and tools which can make the game dev process more streamlined. And, now they have almost 780GBs of data which they are selling in various underground hacking forums.

The above hack was confirmed by EA itself that they had been suffering from a data breach and the data which was listed by hackers was the exact same data, which had got stolen from their internal systems.

“We are investigating a recent incident of intrusion into our network where a limited amount of game source code and related tools were stolen,” an EA spokesperson told Motherboard in a statement. “No player data was accessed, and we have no reason to believe there is any risk to player privacy. Following the incident, we’ve already made security improvements and do not expect an impact on our games or our business. We are actively working with law enforcement officials and other experts as part of this ongoing criminal investigation.”

“Only serious and rep [reputation] members all other would be ignored,” was written by hackers in one of their posts.

Hackers also shared some screenshots claiming the procedure to access the hacked EA data but didn’t publicly distribute any other confidential or internal data themselves.
