The recent Whatsapp and Signal Dispute

The Clash Of Clans (Signal vs Facebook)

The clans for the week are SIGNAL and FACEBOOK but apparently, these clans have been in a war for the past so many months now. Facebook and Facebook-owned Whatsapp have faced some deplorable allegations of stealing the user’s information and keeping a track of all of their moves, during this time. This eventually led many of their users to switch to other messaging applications like Telegram and Signal which brought them huge profits and fame. The tweet “Use Signal.” By Tesla CEO, Elon Musk On January 7 earlier this year had surged the Signal shares more than sixfold within a day. Since then, the rivalry among these applications has been the talk of the town.

Despite the feud between Apple and Facebook regarding the new privacy policies from Apple of seeking the user permission before tracking them which are a “potential threat” to later, Facebook now fights a war with Signal over similar privacy issues.

Signal claims through a Twitter post that these tech giants are not building technology for the people but their data. The privacy-focused messaging app further asserted through a blog post that “Facebook is more than willing to sell visibility into people’s lives unless it’s to tell people about how their data is being used.”

Signal had planned on creating “multi-variant targeted” ads for the Instagram and parent firm, Facebook, users using the former’s ad-tech tools to aim the users with advertisements according to their searches, web histories, locations, occupations, marital status, and much more. Some of those targeted ads are as follows:

To this, Facebook’s new rival further added that their ad campaign was immediately blocked and their account deactivated.

Facebook had replied bluntly that the move was simply a publicity stunt and further reasoned out for their statement by saying that if Signal would have tried to run the ads, Facebook’s advertising policies would exempt them from showing the ads specifying any medical condition or relationship status, as reported by a CNBC spokesperson. “the ad account was briefly disabled for a few days due to an unrelated payments issue” tweeted Joe Osborn, a Facebook spokesperson, to the ad account disabled screenshot from Signal.

This screenshot was further accompanied by Signal defying Facebook’s reply and stating that they “absolutely did try to run the ads” which were dismissed and account disabled.

Facebook reportedly bans Signal ad account for exposing data collection practices

We all are trapped in the social media prison where a stranger knows us well and keeps an eye on us to which we have agreed to, knowingly or unknowingly and this is something that cannot be escaped in this modern era.
